Leafpool, a doctor, had given birth during a winter storm. Her sister, Squirrelflight, helps deliver the kittens and will raise them as her own. The two sisters promise each other to keep this moment a secret.
Life is moving as the sister’s hope. Squirrelflight has named Leafpool’s kittens Jayfeather, Hollyleaf, and Lionblaze. Little do they know a danger is looming over their home, and it will come from inside their walls.
A male neighbor threatens the lives of Leafpool’s kids. In order to save them Squirrelflight revealed the truth about their mother to him. He let’s them live.
Having found out that Squirrelflight is not their real mother, the kits are furious. Hollyleaf’s green eyes loom over the four cat clan leaders as they start the monthly gathering ceremony.
She plans to reveal to all the cat clans the truth and claims that her mother is a traitor for lying. Leafpool’s secret is now out and she is humiliated.
Leafpool’s job as doctor cat is stripped away from her and she is forced to retire to the elder’s den early. However, Hollyleaf still holds a grudge. She follows the cat that threatened her, her siblings, and Squirrelflight’s lives. She confronts this cat on the river bank and murders him.
